Osteopathy is not only a set of techniques, it is a philosophy and a science based on the application of sound principles. The osteopath will always keep in mind his/her deep knowledge of the anatomy and the physiology of the human body while treating the patient.
All of the body’ different parts are designed to function together. If one part of the body is restricted, then the rest of the body will be forced to adapt and compensate. Untreated, this can ultimately alter the functioning of the affected structure, resulting in inflammation, pain, stiffness and over the long term, possible worsening health conditions. Therefore, by improving the movement of a restricted area, the osteopath allows the organs to function at their best so that the body’s self healing mechanism can fully express itself.
This body’s ability to self-heal is called homeostasis. As an example, homeostasis happens when you the body raises its temperature (fever) to activate a metabolic mechanism in order to support the immune system.
Movement is the expression of life. It is crucial to have optimal movement at many different levels to allow your body to self heal and so stay healthy. By helping joint movement, muscle movement, blood circulation, lymphatic drainage, nerve flow, breathing flow, fluid exchange, the osteopath helps the body and its organs be at their best capacity at all levels so they can function optimally.

“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye”
Antoine de Saint-Exupery
